Reimagining the Caltrain experience for riders
Role
UX Designer
Platform
Web/Mobile(iOS)
Duration
Jan '22 - Mar '22 (8 weeks)
Overview
Caltrain.com is an online website platform that provides information on the commuter service along the San Francisco Peninsula to the South Bay. Riders use it to access Caltrain’s schedules, stations, fares, and other relevant rider information. However, there exists a major clutter and overload of information on its pages. From usability test results, it became apparent that navigating the website, and calculating fares were the most difficult tasks to perform.
To help improve the experience, I restructured the information architecture and redesigned the page layouts to help declutter and ease navigation within the website. I also introduced a fare calculator to reduce users' time spent in figuring out the cost.
This redesign of Caltrain website was done over six weeks for my visual design for interfaces class in the spring of 2022.

Week 6
Designing the redesigned web interface to be responsive to mobile screens. I initially found it difficult to maintain the flow of the website’s vertical scroll and limiting the volume of content displayed. I solved this by adding a few elements to indicate continuity and restricted the information displayed by default and tucked the rest under tabs for optional viewing.
